Historic Royal Border Bridge with train crossing over River Tweed in Berwick-upon-Tweed, England.

The Borders

A region with quite a straight forward name. Literally at the border between Scotland and England. Also, the name of a good Sam Fender song.

I’m sitting on the train home now to Waverley. I made a blunder. If I were to have just used the very simple method of buying a physical ticket station, a return ticket would’ve only been one pound more then travelling one way. Alas, I booked a one-way ticket online, hoping to figure it out at the other end.

Despite there being about four people on this train, we got pulled up for our tickets. Yes, that £30 could’ve been used elsewhere, but equally, we’ve saved that much plenty of times before. Lesson learned. It all comes out in the wash.

Anyway, The Borders! Quite a fan. Edinburgh is wonderful, of course, but travel an hour out of the city and you’re amongst rolling fields of sheep, cows, and tight-knit little towns. The cute little walks are endless. You seems to know everyone in the village and, apparently, everyone knows you too!

You can like to spend a day out and about seeing absolutely no one at all, only green fields, or as a social butterfly amongst the village life. The choice is yours. I like that about a place. People. Versatility. Space. I think we’ll be back.
