Rushing Around Tokyo?
I was going to say that I had a long day yesterday. Maybe. But it was no longer really than the day before it, nor today. Just twenty-four hours. But it felt like those hours were stretched to fit as much activity in them as possible.
What I enjoyed about it though was that it didn’t feel like this jam-packed nature wasn’t fuelled by a need to rush. We spent significant time moving but, equally, a lot of time moving in the wrong direction, moving nowhere, or moving towards nowhere in particular.
Tokyo is an incredible city. One that I could never do justice by spending three days here. There should be no concept of doing a place justice though, I believe. You’ll never see everything on your list. You’ll never tick off all the boxes. Actually—you might if your list is short, but that would be a real shame. What would there be left to do then? Nothing else would live up to your expectations.
Personally, I really like aimless wandering. Moving, yes. Fluidly though. With freedom for spontaneity. Structure is useful, but only useful until it limits us.
