Buzzing
I should be asleep right now. Tomorrow, a 4am start awaits me, followed by 50+ kilometres in the jungle. But unfortunately, my sleep schedule isn’t quite accustomed to that. Also, there is a band playing live about 20m below our window which doesn’t shut, and, conveniently, I hadn’t written a blog post yet for today. So here we are.
The town was buzzing today. I feel really excited. There was a board with everyone participant’s name up next to the finish. I felt surreal seeing my name there. Among all these people. I learned there are 11 Australians in the race. I wonder if I’ve unknowingly run into any.
Anyway, going to collect my bib, complete my mandatory gear check, and walk through the countless kiosks lining Betong’s Mongkhonrit tunnel was fun. There was an infectious vibe. One of shared excitement and apprehension. I was more than happy to be swept away by the spectacle. I like that this is a big event. It means I’m less alone. Time to sleep now. Hopefully I can.
