Community at Portobello Beach
We had to make a quick impromptu trip to Portobello Beach this morning. I say had to, but truly, we got to go. What a privilege to spend your Saturday morning walking along such a vibrant beachside esplanade.
It wasn’t something new, but walking the entire length of the esplanade really gave me an appreciation for how strong a sense of community is there. Of course, a plethora of runners and cyclists weave alongside morning walkers, many with dogs happily in tow.
But, it was more the way in which it was done collectively. Dogs played together freely on the beach. Family run coffee vans and ice cream shops dotted at the strip. There were several groups dedicated to open water swimming and rowing. Morning exercise and fitness classes. Everyone went to share coffee and conversation the local cafe afterwards. There was a really cool little pop-up sauna, even.
Just a lovely environment to spend your Sunday morning in, even if it was partially by accident.
