Sitting in Spoons
Mary’s birthday today. To cap off a nice evening we’re currently sitting in a Spoons, enjoying a pint, and playing some cards. Wetherspoons that is, A name synonymous with “cheap pint” in the UK. But also, incredible locations. I respect the business model. Cheap drinks. Best possible locations. Churn out volume.
Right now, we’re sitting on the second level mezzanine of an old Edinburgh theatre, The Caley Picture House. There isn’t a single seat empty, and the constant sound waves of chatter are perfectly indistinct. Simply a frequency of noise in the background. Loud enough that your conversation isn’t heard. Non-descript enough that you can focus on The discussion at your table.
Crucially, not a single Pokies machine in sight. it isn’t special, but I wish there were more establishments like this in Australia.
