Charming stone house in Solsona surrounded by vibrant greenery and towering mountains.

Terracotta Dreams

Rolling plains fly by the car window, flanked by the sea on one side, dry mountains on the other. Quaint towns dot the roadside, each holding truly distinct tradition, culture, and identity. Incomparable to Australia I’ve realised. We’ll be visiting one today.

The romanticism of a European summer is nothing new. Expectations are undoubtedly sky-high and idealised, but, for the most part, are resoundingly met. Visions of terracotta villages and lying under olive trees as the sun sets near 10pm are almost immediately validated. I don’t even know if the material is terracotta. More so that beautiful washed browny-orange hue. Regardless, it is stereotypical, and real, and beautiful.

So far I’ve gleaned more insight in two days alongside local friends than I would’ve gained in two months otherwise. Immense privilege. My Spanish is getting better, too 🙂

For a while, I’ll probably step away from posting every single day here. The habit and project I set out to build has been solidified. Now that I’m with others, I’d rather place my focus in enjoying the moments, and then writing about them if I still feel like it later. Enjoy the weekend!
