Buzzing

Sometimes I forget that caffeine is a drug. I haven’t had it much this year, but that’s changed a little bit since arriving in Vietnam. Many friends, many cafés, many unique coffees to try.

This morning, I had a lovely espresso on an empty stomach. Great view. Great company. Also a profound effect. I’ve been absolutely buzzing ever since. Not a bad thing. But a reminder of the potency of caffeine as a stimulant.

Taken intermittently, it really makes a difference. It is certainly tempting to drink all the time, especially here in Vietnam, but I think, for me, exercising restraint is a good process. The productivity might skyrocket, but the jitters are also very real in my case.

I think it is a tool best saved for moments where I could use a boost, rather than relying on it as a dependency. That said, I do enjoy a coffee. It’s very likely that sentiment could have aged poorly in a few years…
