Perfect Place to Relax
Greetings from Innsbruck, Austria! It’s been a sniffly, slow morning, but time well spent nonetheless. Whilst I can’t say I clearly foresaw this when booking everything, Innsbruck has turned out to be the ideal place for a restful two-night stay. Not only does it serve the logistical purpose of splitting up our train journey from Hungary to Italy, it is also undoubtedly stunning. We’re in the Alps!
The small scale is also inviting. We’re not having to come in and navigate a new city. Nature surrounds us in every which direction. Snow-capped mountains and orange-tinged forest all around. Combined with old European streets and you have a town that looks a like fairytale. As does our room.
On a whim, I booked an AirBnB for I believe the first time all year. Whilst not without faults of course, the charm of our room, The Ivory Tower, is in a class of its own. It is old. But in the best way; bearing the kind of interior detailing you just don’t see anymore. There is also a piano?! I’m not sure if I’m allowed to play it. The gamble was more so that we’d be sharing a flat with other groups. That hasn’t really eventuated. The only other person we’ve seen is the host, so we’ve essentially had the whole place to ourselves.
But yes, although we’re in a skiing town with plenty to do in the way of hiking, or mountain-biking maybe, I don’t feel compelled to do all that much. I’ve spent most of my time by the window, reading my book, with a cup of tea. It’s nice to take a break. Illness couldn’t have struck at a better time.
