Serene beach scene with sandy shore and distant town under a vast blue sky.

Bathed by Scottish Sunlight

Objectively, Edinburgh doesn’t get many cloud-free days. Subjectively, the weather here is rubbish.

Not this week though. For the most part, it’s been delightful. Sure, it hasn’t been without rain and clouds here and there, but the presence of sunshine has caught me off guard.

Compared to the rest of our locations this year (barring Japan), the cold has been a noticeable change. But expected. Appreciated, even. The sun truly has been surprising, though.

It has made walking, or running, through the historic, gorgeous streets of Edinburgh anything but a chore.

Right now, I’m typing this whilst looking out to sea. Today, we traded the West End for Musselburgh. Whilst not a beach in the Australian sense perhaps, being beside the water is still just as comforting. Here, staying with some of Mary’s cousins, the space is amazing. The quiet is calming.

Geese fly in flocks overhead. Small waves lap against the rocks. The sun shines. Simple things.
