Early Reminiscing

Not sure what to write about this evening. Again, the view out my window is sublime. The trees remain vibrantly green. The air conditioning is still very much appreciated.

Frankly, nothing has changed all that much. At least, not in an obvious way. The days have blended into weeks. Fresh routines have been established, and now repeated. Life has been great. At any moment, we can jump onto our bikes and pick somewhere on the island to ride. Unbelievable freedom.

With such time and space, I’ve had ample opportunity for depth. Have I made the most of it? Together, have we used and cherished this time as best we could? Probably not. It’s kind of an impossible bar to reach, and one that only introduces disappointment.

We’re nearly outta here. On to the next chapter once again. About now, reflection often creeps in to take centre stage, sometimes alongside regret. I can do without the regret part this time.

Truthfully, I don’t feel like I’ve utilised the opportunity as well as possible. But that’s okay. In 99% of outcomes I’d feel that way, regardless of how great it was. It doesn’t matter.

What is left—six more days—remains important. If there were other valued goals worth investing this rich, untethered time into, then I’d better get started. Reminiscing about an opportunity you’re still in the thick of seems of like a quick way to let it slip.
