Playoff Magic

I’ve missed basketball.

All things considered, I feel it’s a good thing that I haven’t really watched much sports this year, the NBA in particular. With a buffet of games on literally every single day, chewing up your mornings watching teams you don’t care about play can become habitual. It’s a comforting activity, but it doesn’t really serve any of my own ambitions.

Yesterday, after a considerable hiatus, I watched the playoffs. I’d forgotten what a magical spectacle it can be, in all honesty. Regular season basketball often times seems to just go through the motions. But the NBA playoffs are special.

In years past, I’d be glued to the TV with my brothers or my roommates, enjoying each twist and turn unfold like a good film. This social aspect is missing at the moment for me. I think that contributes significantly to my apathy towards the results.

Someone I met the other day was talking about the recent T20 World Cup from this year. I didn’t even know it had passed. Or EPL standings. Or the latest NRL or AFL storylines. I’m oblivious, when normally I wouldn’t be. Perhaps for the better, but then again, maybe not.

All I know is that I thoroughly enjoyed watching the playoffs yesterday, and I’m glad being sick gave me the excuse to do so.
