Rewiring Your Brain on the Fly: Learning to Snowboard
I’ve spent the past three days learning to snowboard. It’s been an extremely fun, fascinating, and sometimes hair-raising experience.
In recent years, I’ve had the fortune of being to ski occasionally. Enough that, in hindsight, it’s actually something I’m quite good at. It feels as though there is some imposter syndrome attached to that. The lines between beginner, intermediate, and advanced are fuzzy and I’ve been through the full gamut quite recently. That being said, I skied for just one day this time around before deciding to switch over to snowboarding. I was look forward to the mental and physical challenge of learning something from scratch and snowboarding was a skill I figured I’d like to acquire at some point. Rather than waiting for an arbitrary future moment when the timing felt perfect, I decided to jump straight into it, trading a craft that I was just beginning to get really good at for a new activity I would undoubtedly suck at.
